Do you often encounter very small young of the year or tiny juvenile dolphin? Our program defines these small dolphin as any fish less than 13″ fork-length. Through the years we have noticed that these fish are caught frequently on sabiki setups, trolling for bait, or occasionally while bailing/sight-casting among larger dolphin. Our normal plastic dart tags that we issue most frequently to anglers are too big to use with these fish. Part of the reason is the dart head requires a larger cannula to properly insert the tag into the musculature of the fish. On small fish less than 13″ fork-length there is very little muscle for proper insertion of our normal plastic dart tags so we developed a MINI-tag applicator and worked with Floy Tags to develop a MINI plastic dart tag. These tools allow our volunteers to tag these very small fish, a segment of the population where we lack scientific estimates on movements, growth, and other life history parameters. Purchase this kit if you encounter mini mahi or dolphin frequently. Proceeds from your purchase of this kit goes directly to buying more tags, tagging kit supplies, and shipping kits. Thank you for your support of the DRP and your dedication to help advance research and conservation associated with this species and offshore fishing.
